Today I want to answer a question I get and see a lot. I will give you an example of the question: “Hi, How long does it take to be successful with Kindle Publishing?”. I see variations of this question every day on Facebook and get asked it at least three times a week on my website. When you then ask the person how long they have been publishing books they usually say “About a month”. The craziest answer I’ve ever got was “About 7 days”. I mean crazy in the nicest possible way.
How can you expect to be good at something 7 days after trying it for the first time? You don’t start a new sport or hobby and expect to be world class after 4 weeks do you? So why would Kindle Publishing be any different? For some reason, health and finances seem to attract people who want that magic pill quick fix, press this button and you’ll have a six pack and all the money you’ll ever need. This does not exist and it’s a bitter pill to swallow for some people. Growing any income (including passive income) takes time and work.
How Long Does It Take To Be Successful?
Ok, so let’s say you did everything right. All the correct keyword and niche research. Consistently publishing books and getting the required amount of reviews. I would say you could start to make money withing 2-4 months. But that hinges on you doing everything correctly and not making mistakes. Which is a big deal when you are new to something.
Learning The Process And The Importance Of Not Giving Up
My first 4 or 5 books did not sell any copies. But I did not give up. I actually assumed that my first few books would not sell any copies at all as I was still learning the process. I didn’t view it as wasting money, I viewed it as learning. I think that is a big reason why people who get into Kindle Publishing and Internet Marketing in general, are never successful. They want to invest as little money as possible, then make thousands of dollars a month, within the very first month. Then when this inevitably does not happen they get discouraged and give up. They say “See I knew it wouldn’t work”. But what they fail to realise is that success in business boils down to two things:
- In business, you have to spend money to make money. Being cheap, cutting corners and refusing to spend money will exponentially reduce your chances of success.
- It takes time. You will not be an overnight success. Learn to enjoy the process or small improvements. Be consistent, don’t give up and you will be successful.
Conclusion
Kindle Publishing as any other business takes time. Do not expect to be a millionaire after two weeks. However, if you do the proper research, order good quality books, get good covers designed and get the proper amount of reviews you will be successful eventually. Be patient and keep plugging away and the success will come.
