I see a lot of posts online with people asking how many hours Kindle Publishers and other Internet Marketers spend working on their business per week. I thought I’d give you a rundown of what I currently do.
I currently spend about 7 hours a week on my business. I work in my day job 4 days a week from Monday – Thursday and spend Fridays working on my own business.
Note: I don’t count updating this blog in the 7 hours above as it doesn’t make me any income. I view it as more of a hobby and a way to help out others.
This was only a recent change, before that I worked full time and spent about 5 hours a week working on my business.
A lot of Internet Marketers and Gurus will either tell you that you need to work every hour you’re not at your day job and have no life or it requires no work at all you can make $10,000 dollars a month in your first month (aka get rich quick schemes that don’t work).
I’m here to tell you that you can do something in the middle but it will take longer. It took me 12 months working 5 hours a week to grow my business into a full time income. My friend Will who runs http://www.hittheaccelerator.com/ accomplished the same thing doing a similar amount of hours per week.
What is the point of this post?
The point of this post is to demonstrate that a person with a limited amount of time can start a profitable online business. It will just take longer to grow your income. I had 5 hours a week and did the best that I could with that amount of time. It took 12 months but I managed to grow my business to the point where I make a full time income from it and am ready to leave my job. I want to point out that the 5 hours a week of work is focused work. Not messing around on social media or staring into space. It is 5 hours of work that will grow my income.
But what if I don’t have any free time?
Everyone has free time even people who have kids. Let me ask you a couple of questions:
- How many hours per week do you spend watching TV?
- How many hours a week do you spend looking at Facebook and other social media?
I don’t like reality TV or soaps so I save myself about 10 hours a week by not watching those types of shows. I don’t even get regular TV in my apartment I only have Netflix.
You have more free time than you realise. If you don’t want to do work in the evenings then get up an hour earlier and work then instead. There is always a way if you are willing to not make excuses and try.
